Chapter 10:
THE POPULAR MISCONCEPTION OF GOD’S “UNCONDITIONAL” LOVE:
A bit about this very popular misconception (for yet another way of excusing sin) of God’s “unconditional” love:
God, aside from being loving, merciful, and longsuffering, is also VERY Holy and just! In the first passage of this section, you would never believe that God is referring to professing “believers” in the CHURCH, had He not said; “I will drive them out of MY HOUSE” (Hos. 9:15). But he sure does, and furthermore, this, as well as the following verses show that He is not some kind of ‘tip-toeing through the tulips’ God that just loves everybody! Below, are only some of the verses that destroy the popular misconception that God’s love is “unconditional”! There is absolutely NO place in the Bible that says God’s love is unconditional! On the contrary, He says there are DEFINITE conditions:
Hos. 9:15; “I HATED them: for the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of MY HOUSE, I will LOVE THEM NO MORE.”
Rom. 9:13; “Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” God loves SOME and definitely hates others!
Heb. 12:17 (Again of Esau); “He was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.”
Rom. 9:15; “I will have mercy on whoever I want to have mercy, and I will have compassion on whoever I want to have compassion.”
Prov.16:4; “The Lord has made… the wicked for the day of evil.”
Jer. 7:16; “Do not even pray for these people, do not lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: For I will not hear you.”
2Tim. 2:19; “The Lord knows them who are his:” (here’s the condition:) “Let every one that names the name of Christ DEPART FROM INIQUITY!”
Eze. 18:20; “The soul that sins, it shall die!”
1Cor. 3:16-17; “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy him!” (Another definite condition.)
Jer. 12:7-8; (After reading what God says here about His church, no one can possibly interpret His love as “unconditional”); “I have forsaken My house, I have left My heritage… I have I hated it.”
John 15:2; (The condition for obtaining Gods love is bearing fruit.); “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”
John 14:24; “He that does Not keep My sayings does Not love me” and “I love them who love me.” (Prov. 8:17) He says the same thing in the next verse:
John 14:21; “He that keeps My commandments is he that loves me, and HE THAT LOVES ME SHALL BE LOVED BY MY FATHER, AND ME.”
John 15:10; “IF you KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, you shall remain in My love.” This is a big “IF”, it is definitely NOT “UNconditional”!
Luke 19:27; (Says the Lord); “Bring here those enemies (servants) of mine who did Not want Me to RULE over them and kill them before me!”
