Chapter 1:
VITAL INTRODUCTION TO TRUTH:
Gen. 4:7; “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you shall RULE over it.”
The Bible; the actual Word of God. Throughout this book, the points that are made therein are backed up by scripture out of both the NEW and OLD Testaments; very often switching back and forth between the two. A lot of people, for their own purposes, as they lean on their own understandings, try to rationalize that the Old Testament is somehow less relevant than the New Testament, therefore giving them license to conveniently disregard the parts that don’t suit their own philosophies or purposes. Especially the parts condemning their actions; the sins and idols they refuse to give up. But to their dismay, the basic message of the scripture is the same throughout the entire Word of God, it is harmonious and consistent from Genesis all way to Revelation!:
OLD Testament: (Mal. 3:6); “I am the Lord, I do NOT change…”
NEW Testament: (Heb. 13:8); “Jesus Christ the SAME yesterday, today, and forever.”
Compare also these two passages:
OLD: Jer. 32:19; “For your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
NEW: Rev. 2:23; “All the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.”
This said; to emphasize and establish- not only how beautifully harmonious, but more importantly how relevant- BOTH the OLD and the NEW testaments are to each other.
To ALSO emphasize, not only harmony and relevance, but how IMPORTANT the KEEPING of God’s “commandments” are to God HIMSELF: They are perfectly and beautifully mentioned at the very END of the OLD Testament, and at the very END of the NEW Testament!:
OLD: (Mal. 4:4); “Remember the law of Moses My servant which I commanded him… with the statutes and judgements.”
NEW: (Rev. 22:14); “Blessed are they who DO his commandments, THEY are the ones who have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
May God bless every soul that takes literally and seriously every scripture written in this book.
